"Why Kerrisdale?" is a question I often get. People are baffled that our company isn’t based in the Kerrisdale area of Vancouver, and are understandably curious about the name. And so I tell them this.
The name was selected in homage to my grandparents and their longtime home in a beautiful area of Vancouver called Kerrisdale. Some of my earliest memories are of their charming home there - the white clapboard siding, old hardwood floors with greek key inlay, and the garden out back where I’d play with my cousins. Long after my grandparents and the rest of my extended family moved out to the suburbs, we would still always take a drive through Kerrisdale whenever we were in the city. Gazing out the window at streets lined with massive trees and established, traditional style homes, I would listen to my dad point out so-and-so’s house, or the school he attended.
Kerrisdale for me was pure nostalgia, but it also became synonymous with traditional design, quality, and charm. I noticed the details and the architecture often missing in the newer suburb I later grew up in, and I selected Kerrisdale for the name of my design firm, desiring to imbue those same characteristics of quality and tradition in our company.
